There are two versions of the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test. The table below shows information about the Level 2 test, which starts at 13 km/hr. The Level 1 test is more commonly used, might want to check out the data table for the Level 1 test. The team from Bitworks has a beep test app that (like their Team Beep Test software for Windows) can also run the yo-yo tests (Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery. Yo-Yo Intermittent Test Yo-Yo Endurance Test (includes a 5-10 sec recovery break between bout). There are also two levels of the test (Level 1 & 2), for each type each having a different starting speed and increments.
The Yo-Yo Intermittent Test evaluates one's stamina using a profile similar to sports like soccer, basketball and other similar 'stop-and-go' vigorous sports.
This app will allow you to conduct the following:
* The Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test, Level 1 and Level 2
* The Yo-Yo Intermittent Endurance Test, Level 1 and Level 2
as defined by Jens Bangsbo of Copenhagen University (December 1994)
It will
- prompt you with voice cues or ringtones that you select
- display seconds to shuttle halfway point
- display seconds to next speed level
- display seconds during recovery
- display distance covered (incl. shuttles) and time elapsed
When you are done, the app will provide you with
- an estimated VO2_Max (recovery mode only)
- an estimated calorie consumption
- total distance run
Prior to using it for the first time, make sure to use the 'Settings' menu to customize your sounds (default sound could be silent). Also, if applicable, make sure 'Notification Volume' on your phone is turned up.
This app will not allow you to directly save your results (the Pro version will); you could take a screenshot (power + lower volume buttons simultaneously).

Two Types of Yo-Yo Test? You might hear about two types of test: the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test and the Yo-Yo Intermittent Endurance test.The former of these two has a 10 second break after each 2 x 20m sprint, and the latter only gives you 5 seconds making it a bit closer to the classic beep test.
